Adventures In Aging

First, let me just say, I am so sorry for all the jokes I made about my parents.

Today I went to the eye doctor. They had me watch a video about cataract surgery. The assistant gave me an iPad and showed me how to start the video. I pushed the start arrow to assure her I wasn’t senile. It was then, I realized I am my parents and I’m not 34 anymore

The only way to stop the aging process is to die. I take vitamins, antioxidants, trying hard to eat whole foods and get moderate exercise, but here I am…..watching a video on cataract surgery. I don’t want to die yet, so I might as well laugh, as many before me have decided. Let’s have fun!

Lazy Or Undisciplined

One day as I was thinking about how I am not getting anywhere with my weight loss desire or my writing, I asked myself if I am lazy or undisciplined? Then it occurred to me that I am not sure what the difference is between them, They seem very much the...

Finding Self in Aging

The two guys in the picture above are local guys I believe. I saw them at a local Farmer’s Market playing primarily the same measures of music over and over. The tune was catchy and never irritating. Another older man nearby was selling items of clothing...

The pleasures of Aging

It seems like one day you're sailing along and enjoying all life has to offer and then suddenly you and your friends are planning your 50th class reunion. The question on everyone’s mind is…..what happened to the years? When we graduated, we felt like the...

Autumn of Life

I love autumn, don’t you? The colors are beautiful, and the smells of pumpkin spice, salted caramel and even leaves burning are a pleasure in small doses. I love the cooler weather and jeans and sweaters. I love everything, even the prospect of winter and...

No Comparison

Comparisons can make our lives miserable. I would venture to say comparisons are the main reason we have problems in our marriages, our finances and our lives in general. Comparisons happen because we have not learned to be thankful for what we have. Aging...

Never A Reason to Feel Useless

I was talking to a very dear friend the other day. She was talking about how she feels these days as she is aging. She is unmarried and feels alone. Her eyes are not what they use to be, and she knows her hearing isn’t either. She looks at the future, and...

Nothing Wasted

I am a writer, author, and a blogger. For the minor things like grammar and spelling, I have a program that edits my work as I write. In fact, I have had two corrections already. For the quality of the content, I edit it myself by putting it aside for a...

You Are One in a Million

What do I have to offer? Have you asked yourself that lately? I have, and there are days I answer that question with—not much. I am more easily tired. I don’t see as well, and I don’t hear as well, and I have to admit, I don’t think as well. All that adds...

Improving, Not Failing

One of the problems with growing older is failing eyesight. Many problems can arise. Macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, general weakness and more. With the loss of vision goes the loss of independence. Yikes! Life is an adventure we don’t want to...

Ageless

One part of us never ages. Maybe that is why one of my friends who just celebrated her seventy-first birthday said she doesn’t know how that can be when she thinks of herself so much younger than that. Don’t we all? Don’t we think of ourselves as much...
