What do you think of when you think of peace? A quiet brook? A waterfall? Sitting under the shade of a tree on a perfect afternoon? We all have a scene or circumstance that causes a sense of peace. Any of those scenarios can be ruined if a relationship has gone awry. If we feel at odds with someone we care about or if we feel betrayed by someone, or even let down by someone. Our hurt or brokenness becomes our focus.
Forgive Our Self
The one who hurt us or betrayed us, or let us down is not always another person. Sometimes we do it to ourselves. We promised our self we would accomplish something, but we don’t do it. We set goals and then sabotage them our self. The next thing we know we feel disappointed or ashamed or betrayed. We may blow off the fact that we haven’t kept a New Year’s resolution in years, but our subconscious remembers and holds it against us, and our self-esteem goes down. Our confidence goes down. We become wary of setting goals, and without goals we become stagnant.
Peace Comes Not from Our Perfection
Isaiah 26:3 God will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him. Perfect peace. Wow! Who doesn’t want that? But how do we keep our mind stayed on God? The answer? Through Jesus Christ. Through Jesus Christ, we have forgiveness of all our sins, and by His grace, we are set free from the regret, shame, condemnation that goes with unforgiveness. Through Jesus, we are aligned with God.
We Are Set Free
The wonder of it all is that through Jesus Christ the Law of the Holy Spirit who is life sets us free from the law of sin and death. We are set free from the sin of unforgiveness so we can forgive our self and others. We can step into the Love which is God who holds no record of wrongs. We are like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in its season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever we do while our mind is set on God will prosper. Psalm 1:3
